As late summer’s days slowly fades to September, I wanted to share this look-back piece celebrating New York State’s special Military & Veteran’s duck hunting days story.
I read a great many posts & much commentary here on the Adirondack Almanack site criticizing Governor Hochul, her administration, New York state, the NYSDEC and government in general. While I don’t want to get lost in the weeds attempting to navigate folks’ myriad issues, one thing I will say is that as far as I am concerned, everything else aside, when Governor Hochul announced a salute to those who have served by the addition of the special early NYS Military & Veteran’s waterfowl hunting weekend, at least on this issue, Governor Hochul got it right!
NYS’s 2024 Special Military Duck Hunting Days dates are set!
Northeast Zone: September 28 & 29
Western Zone: November 9 & 10
Southeastern Zone: September 28 & 29
Lake Champlain: None
Long Island: November 16 & 17
As far as I (and anyone who has ever savored one of my camp chef duck dinners) is concerned, New York State’s special early Military & Veteran’s duck hunting days are…
JUST DUCKY!
My proud veteran’s salute to all who have donned a uniform in service and sacrifice to our great nation. Good Luck & safe hunting.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!

This program and this article are propaganda that seek to make it easier to recruit kids to go and make war on some unlucky country and kill people. This is not ducky.
Nonsense comment. Richard thanks for the story.
And when the fighting comes to our shores, who will you be looking to for protection of your arse?
Last time that happen was WW2. The wars since then are to sell weapons and control the regions natural resources like fossil fuels. We are the most agressive nation in the world. We spend more on defense than the next top nine countries combined. We have the most foreign military bases in the world at 750 bases in 80 countries. The United States has invaded 68 countries in its history, although the US did not declare war on all of these countries.
Great story Dick! Thanks for reminding me of this special hunt for Veterans.
As a veteran myself, I greatly appreciate like this Special Active Duty/Veteran hunting weekend, although I’m not a hunter of quackers any more. So, thank you Governor/Legislature, whoever is responsible for this, and thanks Dick for your service, and for the great story, and yes, I would pay big money for that experience. As for the ‘other’ comments, I’d just remind the commenters that NYS is simply thanking the people who answered their nations call. If you’ve got a problem with that, you’ve got a problem with me and millions of active duty/veterans.
