Over the last two decades, the iconic Adirondack loon has experienced increasing nest failure and migration disruption. Why? Climate Change. But how exactly is that happening and what, if anything, can be done about it?
“Are Loons on Thin Ice with Climate Change?”-a program scheduled for Thursday, July 31 at the Adirondack History Museum – will provide some answers, with an overview of the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation’s observations of how climate change is impacting Adirondack loons, as well as information about loon behavior and natural history. Denise Silfee, Director of Education and Communications at the Saranac Lake-based Loon Center will serve as the featured speaker.
This presentation is part of a series of programs at the Adirondack History Museum that focuses on the evolving climate, and how it impacts the people, companions in nature, and common habitats in the North Country environment.
The “Are Loons on Thin Ice with Climate Change?” event is free to members of the Adirondack History Museum and $8 for non-members. The program begins at 7 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m.
