It all began innocuously enough.

Higher than normal spring runoff pond water levels… A handful of small white bark chewed sticks afloat in the water… One whiskered face glimpse… A quick swirl and a splash. 

Then I spotted the dam.

Little did I comprehend what that seemingly innocent construct of branches and mud foretold for me.

The respect I would gain for my newfound opponent.

The lessons I would learn about both nature and myself.

As the beaver taught me the true meaning of one word…

 “RELENTLESS”

Memories of my father’s words all the while inspiring me.
