Forest Rangers
The state Department of Environmental Conservation is working with the Department of Health to provide new medical training to forest rangers across the state. But some union representatives are concerned that the switch away from Wilderness Medical Associates International will be problematic to complicated backcountry rescues.

The pun circulating Albany…the solar eclipse has eclipsed state budget negotiations. We are still without a state budget, which is eight days late. We are keeping an eye out on when legislators and Gov. Kathy Hochul’s administration come to an agreement.
Here’s a reminder that the Adirondack Explorer and the Times Union of Albany are hosting a legislative event. From 9 to 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, we will hold a panel discussion called “Navigating Environmental Legislation,” at The Times Union, 645 Albany Shaker Road Albany, NY 12211.
The panel includes:
Blair Horner, executive director of New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG);
Sen. Peter Harkham, chair of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee;
Sen. Dan Stec, ranking member of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee;
Assemblymember Deborah Glick, chair of the Assembly Environmental Conservation Committee; and
Assemblymember Matt Simpson, ranking member of the Environmental Conservation committee.

USL Marina proposes an expansion of an existing marina on Fish Creek Ponds in the town of Santa Clara through the installation of a new dock system to include a total of 92 boat slips available for rent. Erie Boulevard Hydropower, L.P. has submitted an application requesting a Section 401 Water Quality Certification for the relicensing of the West Canada Creek Hydroelectric Project (Project) by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The Project consists of two hydroelectric facilities, Prospect and Trenton, and located in the Town of Trenton in Oneida County, and the Town of Russia in Herkimer County.Erie proposes to continue pulsing operation of the Project’s two facilities totaling 39.75-megawatts of capacity. The Project will be operated in compliance with a signed an executed Settlement Agreement between Erie, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and Trout Unlimited (TU). The DEC is proposing issuance of a 40-year Water Quality Certification, to run concurrently with the FERC issued license. Comments are due by April 18.
