What should be done with former Adirondack prison buildings, now sitting vacant? Does the state have a responsibility as the owner to redevelop the properties?

I am not sure NYS would be the best caretakers of these properties long-term, but properly updated with help from federal funding, most of us could see the value of the properties being used for short-term “acute housing” needs. Refugees, trail crews, temporary infrastructure labor, fire/flood evacuees, and homelessness of any sort would be populations that would much appreciate ANY housing to life under a tarp. Basically, motel rooms for the disadvantaged, supported by state, county, and federal funding. Services required by these tenants could boost local economies as well.
My grandfather worked at the Mt McGregor facility in the 1920’s til the 1940’s. It was a sanitarium owned by the Metropolitan Insurance Company —–but was eventually sold decades ago and became a NY State prison—–but what is it now? Can anyone point me to a web-site or whatever to learn more about the history of this place?
